Here's a quick look at the game:

Redcoats IO is a large-scale multiplayer first-person shooter set in the age of muskets, cavalry, field artillery, and wooden warships. Battles support up to 1,000 concurrent players, with opposing sides fighting across the same battlefield to capture and hold forts. Instead of focusing only on individual eliminations, the war is decided by control of these key positions.

Choose a Role for the Battlefield

Redcoats IO divides its combat between four roles. Musketeers fight on foot with flintlock muskets and bayonets, making them the basic infantry force for advancing on enemy positions. Cavalrymen travel quickly on horseback, allowing them to scout, flank, or reach distant areas faster than soldiers on foot.

Cannoneers operate field cannons. Cannonballs provide long-range fire, while grapeshot is intended for enemies at shorter distances. Sailors crew warships, using their guns against other vessels or bombarding objectives on land. Because each role interacts with the battlefield differently, changing where and how you fight can be more useful than treating every encounter like an infantry duel.

Capturing Forts and Winning the War

Forts are the central objectives in Redcoats IO. Your side needs to take these positions and prevent the opposing team from reclaiming them. That makes fights around forts more important to victory than simply searching the map for isolated opponents.

The large battlefield also gives mobility and artillery specific purposes. Cavalry can move quickly toward contested positions, field cannons can attack from range, and ships can influence fighting near the coast. If a fort is under pressure, choosing a role that can reach or support that objective is more useful than remaining far from the active front.

Redcoats IO Controls

Control Action
WASD Move
Mouse Aim
Left Click Shoot
1–5 Change weapon
Space Jump
F Interact, mount, board, or use equipment
C Crouch
Shift Zoom aim
M Open the map

The F key is especially important because vehicles and battlefield equipment are part of the core combat. It is used when mounting, boarding, or operating interactive objects rather than only for ordinary movement.

Using Each Role Effectively

Musketeers are described as most effective when advancing in groups and forming firing lines, so staying near allied infantry helps concentrate musket fire. Cavalry gains its advantage from speed, which makes flanking or pursuing isolated infantry more practical than remaining stationary in a crowded firing line.

Cannoneers should account for ammunition type and distance: cannonballs provide long-range damage, while grapeshot is designed to threaten groups at close range. Sailors can use naval guns against ships or land positions, so controlling a warship can contribute to the same fort-focused battle taking place ashore.
